The chaos from the much needed changes happening in the world is overwhelming.
Social media is filled with hysterical posts, mean posts, callous and unfeeling posts, posts about what to do, posts about what not to do, contradictory posts that says what others say you should do is the opposite of what you should do … and memes like this one which actually is my favourite.
As a white woman with a type A personality who suffered burn out more times than I care to count until I finally figured out how to take of myself ... who still wants to be anti-racist while fulfilling my life purpose of making the world a better place ... but this time without losing my sanity, physical strength and trust in humanity ... As I sit here and think about what to write this week, I can’t help but notice that we are still in a global pandemic. Despite the flurry of opinions, science, facts, fantasies, arguments and hysteria, the reality is we are still in lockdown to some degree or another.
Six weeks or so into this, an air of discomfort has fallen over us.
The lightbulb is on: we’re in this surreal episode of the twilight zone for the long haul.
I’ve had friends and colleagues ask me how I’m doing at home, social distancing.
I usually give an honest, but brief explanation of my emotional ups and downs, careful to straddle my desire to not to be too much of a downer while still keeping it real.

I’ve been on a 22 day program to reset my metabolism, because I “suddenly” woke up one day to realize that my waist was expanding out in all directions. I can’t blame this on the Coronavirus Indoor Eating Plan: my love of doing nothing coupled with my love of carbohydrates in the form of potatoes and bread has been a lifelong love affair.

Recently, I’ve felt a growing sense of exasperation at COVID-19 inspired crazy behaviours. Why are people continuing to ignore the directives to stay home? Why do they seem to spit in the face of being a “good citizen”? Since it’s in my nature to try to understand human behaviour, especially during the chaos and uncertainty of the COVID-19 landscape. To the best of my ability, this is what I’ve come up with.
I didn’t think that FOMO (fear of missing out) was really a thing until I saw it playing out in this life or death scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic. Who would’ve thought that being told not to go to church, have a beach day with friends or visit family over the holidays would spark a deadly rebellion and a pandemic of FOMO?
To be honest, I have a hard time connecting to this FOMO phenomenon to begin with.
